After the sucessful conversion of the T813 transceiver,
it was time for another challenge: a simple conversion method for the Bosch
KF161 DigX mobile radio. These rigs were made available for licenced radio
amateurs by Museum Jan Corver. Unfortunately they have been sold out by now.
These pages describe a simple method to convert the Bosch KF161 for use in
the 2m amateur band.
The concept
The target of this conversion was simplicity. Originally the units
were equipped with a fairly unique PROM, capable of holding up to
10 channels. This PROM has to be removed and will be replaced by a
small PCB containing a more standard EPROM. The EPROM can be programmed
by 10 channels of your choice. The latter can be done at the museum
by Cor, PA0VYL (the curator) or, if you have an EPROM-programmer available,
you may want to do this yourself.
The original 10-channel selector at the front is used to select a channel
from the new EPROM. The EPROM can be programmed in such a way that a
600 kHz shift is used for repeaters automatically. The small PCB fits
in the original PROM space and contains the EPROM and some additional
circuitry. It was designed by Marc, PE1RRT.
Status
The initial bulk of KF161 transceivers were equipped with a synthesizer
that had the capability to access 10 pre-programmed channels.
Unfortunately, this rig has been sold out completely. However,
we still have many KF161 units available with crystal oscillators.
Please contact the Museum for more information.
This is a simple BASIC program that can be used when programming
your preferred frequencies.
